Lower Churchill Project Grounding Compounds

Description:

Each end of the LCP HVdc system has an electrode system to enable power transmission. The electrode systems comprises of tubular electrode elements placed inside perforated wells buried in porous rocks of the breakwater for protection against ice. Two (2) facilities, one at L’Anse Au Diable in Labrador and the other at Dowden’s Point in Newfoundland are the transition compounds for each side of the Strait of Belle Isle submarine cable crossing. The scope of the Work consisted of all services to complete the remaining portion of the electrode sites, including electrical and mechanical, as well as civil works required to support the electrical work. The transition compounds also included switch works to manage the transition from overhead lines to the submarine cables.
