Project:

2017 Substation 607

Description:

Electrical works included upgrades to the 607 substation that feeds the old tailing pump house (OTPH). Footprint is relatively small and electrical equipment was energized during work. Special safety work plans were developed and approved before carrying out the work. The project included a new full redundancy 46kV 3 phase power line, with a 100 meter 46kV new overhead line. The line was connected to a new 46kV double gantry complete with isolator, switch, fusible and surge arrester. Isolated 46kV power cable made the connection through a new overhead line on new 46kV switchgear which was installed in a new E-House. The electrical E-house contained 46kV and 4.16kV switchgear with all necessary ancillary services. The connection of the old existing 46kV power lines was integrated into the switchgear for full 46kV power line redundancy. The new transformers were 7.5/10MVA, 46kV/4.16kV. They were installed along with two new ground resistors. Precast concrete firewalls on three sides of each transformer were installed to mitigate fire propagation in case of explosion. The secondary of the new transformers was connected through 5kV cables in underground FRE conduits to the new 4.16 kV switchgear installed in the E-House.
