TL 266 Soldiers Pond to Hardwoods – Line Construction

Description:

The work included the construction of a new 17 km transmission line from Soldiers Pond to Hardwood’s substations, on the island of Newfoundland. Also, the work included the replacement and construction of a new gantry structure at Hardwood’s substation and the installation and testing of the fibre optic cable, including fibre terminations at both Terminal Stations. Scope of work was as follows:

 

  • Design, construction and remediation of crane pads required for tower erection;
  • Increased the density of the existing geodetic control network as required for line construction;
  • Surveying and staking of tower layout, preparation of specific access requirements and laydown areas
  • Developed detailed access plans and the construction of all access required for construction;
  • Once constructed, maintained all access roads in a fit-for-purpose condition, including grading, dust
  • control, snow removal and ice control
  • soil investigation program for selection and installation of foundations;
  • Installation of tower foundations and guy anchors;
  • Assembly and erection of towers and hardware;
  • Installation of gantry foundations;
  • Assembly and erection of gantry structure and hardware;
  • Clearing and preparation of conductor OPGW and OHSW stringing areas.
  • Installation of Conductors, OPGW, OHSW and Counterpoise;
  • Testing the Fibre Optic cable from end to end including the patch panels, FOC and the OPGW cable
